ECU Remapping – Peacehaven

Virtually all modern vehicles are fitted with an Engine Control Unit, or ECU.

This is effectively the car’s brain and it determines various limitations such as power, torque, reliability, and fuel emissions. Often finely balanced, the controls can provide different parameters from vehicle to vehicle, even when they have the same specification engine.

As a general example, an entry-level ‘standard’ model vehicle with excellent fuel consumption could share an identical factory engine with its sister ‘sport’ model, which enjoys excellent performance. The balancing aspects are determined by the ECU, which means that typically, superior fuel economy is likely to compromise performance, and vice versa. These factors are called ‘maps’.
