Sea Cliff Garage's History

Sea Cliff Garage’s story began at Saltdean Service Station, where Fred, Olive, Keith and Roger worked side by side, living locally in Rodmell Avenue, Saltdean.

The workshop became known not just for its hard work and community spirit, but also for its passion for cars — surrounded by classic Mini Coopers, and iconic Ford models that reflected the team’s enthusiasm for motoring.

When the Saltdean premises were scheduled for demolition, a new chapter began. In 1985, the business relocated to its current home in Peacehaven, taking over the property from two brothers who had previously operated a garage there. From that moment on, Sea Cliff Garage became firmly rooted in the local community.

From 1985 until 2021, the garage was owned and operated by the late Roger, who dedicated decades to serving local families and keeping Peacehaven moving. He was supported throughout the years by his wife, Beverly, in the office, and for long periods of time by his brother, Keith, nephew, Russell, and son, Paul. They looked after a range of cars, even taking to race and support friends with their Ford Escort Mark 2 rally car.

In 2023, following Roger’s passing, the workshop was refurbished. As a lasting tribute to his lifetime of hard work, Roger’s signature was 3D printed and set into the new concrete floor — in the exact spot where he would normally stand beneath the vehicle lifts. It remains there today, forever part of the workshop and the legacy he built, never too far away from the action and only happy to be covered in oil.

Paul’s own passion for cars was shaped from a young age, inspired by memories of a customer’s Lotus Esprit visiting the garage in the late 1980s. That early spark has carried forward into the next generation.

Today, Sea Cliff Garage remains proudly family owned and operated, now in its third generation. Built on honest workmanship, personal service and genuine care for customers, we continue to offer a more attentive and friendly experience than many larger garages.

While many local businesses have come and gone, Sea Cliff Garage has stood the test of time — built on trust, community and a lifelong love of cars.
